What to Plant Now

Okay everyone! I think we're pretty safe to plant all of your vegetable seeds now. I can always be wrong, of course, and we may need to cover our tomatoes a couple of times before June, but I think all else is safe. I've also planted and/or potted my annuals for the year (and am still wanting more -- it's never enough!!). Corn is the last thing to go in the ground for me ... I think I'll wait until my husband can help this year -- perhaps that will help me yield straighter rows :)
My lettuce, spinach, radishes, and peas are all doing well and enjoying the cold mornings. Isaac and I planted the beans last weekend and Isabelle and I put the tomato seedlings in the ground (buried deep) yesterday. The potatoes are sprouting now and contending with the literally hundreds of gourd seeds which were inadvertently planted via the "compost" we brought over from the field to fill in the kitchen garden. Ugh. I'll be writing an article about this for the CHOIS magazine (www.chois.org) coming out in the Fall. Look for it in my regular column entitled "Sprigs". Happy planting everyone!
