A Manly Celebration

While we couldn't forego our birthday pancake tradition (which we had the day after), we did still celebrate with quite a breakfast on Josiah's 18th birthday.

We were privileged to have nearly 40 of Josiah's favorite men/young men (family, neighbors, and friends) share the morning with us -- first enjoying breakfast at our home.  Joe and I scrambled 156 eggs (!) and served sausage, bacon, and homemade cinnamon rolls as well.   Praise God there was plenty of food (looking at that many hungry men on a Saturday morning can be quite intimidating!) and everyone enjoyed a leisurely morning of food and fellowship.

It is such a joy to see my son interacting and enjoying the company of men of all ages.  Some of his closest friends are several years older than him -- adding wisdom and experience to his brain filled with book knowledge :-)

From our home, they ventured to the Idaho wilderness (it doesn't take long from our house to get there!) to do what American men love to do -- shoot guns.  We have quite an armory over here with several like-minded friends to share with so it was a great few hours of trying out a variety of weapons for all the men.

Josiah received a fire-arm for his birthday (not the one pictured here) and enjoyed using it as well as several other guns to perfect his already excellent shot.   With his love of history, war, and the military,  it hasn't been hard for him to transition that into a wealth of knowledge about weapons and weaponry.
Don't worry Moms -- there was an instructor on site who began with safety procedures, not to mention several experienced Dads to lend a hand and offer advise.

It was a great way to celebrate yet another milestone in my son's life.  Happy birthday Josiah!
