We've been privileged for the 5th year in a row to spend a few early autumn days at the Oregon Coast.
This place is precious to us -- not because it's necessarily the most beautiful beach location (I can personally attest that North Carolina's or Maui's beaches are far superior) or because the weather is always nice (rarely hits above 70 degrees) or because the blue skies draw us in (I'm wondering if there has ever been a fully cloud-free day at this place) ....

I think the reason we return year after year is because it is one of the few places where we
truly relax. We take our towels and chairs, our frisbee and buckets and kite, our diet cokes and double stuff oreos (a tradition!) and plop ourselves in the sand to marvel at the beauty of God's ocean and treasure the joy on our children's faces as they play in the sand and surf. We talk and sit in silence. We read and take walks and beach comb finding yet more shells and rocks that I'll have to find a home for upon our return.

Again this year, we were privileged to have my Dad and his wife join us for part of our trip.
Grandpere (my Dad is Canadian and this has always been his name to my children) is a professional artist and spent several hours painting beside Isabelle while teaching her how to use acrylic paints, blend colors, etc. They both created masterpieces that will be treasured for years to come :-)

We spent Saturday at the
Evergreen Aviation Museum (the home of the Spruce Goose) and the accompanying watersides. Seeing and climbing inside an actual B17 (guided by an 86 year old WWII vet who fought and flew in one!) was a highlight of our day.

For a family who has visited some of the best museums in the country, this was actually quite a highlight featuring military aviation, space travel and technology, gun history, and several other interesting facets of American history. If you're ever in the area (McMinnville, Oregon), we recommend a stop over here (we spent 6 hours here, but you could easily enjoy it in less time).

We finished off our trip with shopping, visiting tide pools, spending a morning at the beach, eating delicious food (the crab cakes here are wonderful), watching movies, and playing games. It has been a sweet and much needed time of rest and relaxation for which we are so thankful!

Looks wonderful! One of the places Michael and I are hoping to visit with the girls. Praying your autumn season is abundantly blessed!
So glad you got away. I know the ocean's calming power. Love to all.
