October is one of my favorite months. The weather is beautiful, the shadows changing, and my children have a constant carpet of leaves on which to play. I only wish it lasted longer ....

This sweet girl is growing up much too fast. I am holding on to each day with a pang of bittersweet in my heart. Now that the trees are dropping their bounty of leaves, I know that a portion of each afternoon will be spent in her raking and throwing and playing amongst the piles.

This has been a month in which we experienced a long-awaited celebration. Joe arrived home early one evening with tremendous news .... a milestone for us as a couple and as a family.

He carried me over the threshold (again) and we spent the evening celebrating as a family with football and a campfire complete with singing, stories of happiest memories, and marshmallows while under the stars.

Our days are filled with our schooling at home, and our evenings are now filled with extracurricular activities from violin to karate, Bible studies to Science Club. Isaac is excelling in his academic year and here is completing an experiment during Science Club. We have 12 families represented this year!! It is a great group of kids (and parents) that we're hoping to now hold on to through Isaac's Chemistry year.

Isabelle's latest passion is tree climbing and she spends hours in our weeping willow tree making friends of the birds and bugs, talking and reading and singing and dreaming and writing. I've gotten over my worry about her falling (mostly) and am so thankful she has this "special place".

She's labeled one of the rungs leading up to the lowest branches and I just had to take a picture of her adorable writing and pictures. Kale (our dog) sits at the base of the tree whenever she is there, keeping her company and giving her a constant companion and tireless listener.

Last weekend we harvested our honey for the year. It was a banner year for our bees. We shared the experience with a favorite family of ours who's daughter is interested in bee-keeping. She and Joe suited up to go gather the hives and bring them to the garage where a crew of eager workers were on hand to do the work needed to harvest (and to lick up the accidents).

My flower gardens are still blooming -- showing off their autumn plumage in great style. Even my perennial garden is still filled with color. I'm soaking it all in knowing that a hard frost is likely just a week or two away.

God has been so faithful to help me "rejoice in Him always" in spite of some difficult days this month. His creation is ever before me as a reminder of His unending love, and His peace "which transcends all understanding" is guarding my heart and mind as I trust in Him day by day. Autumn blessings to you all.
