Garden Update

With our overcast day, the light was just right for some garden update pictures. All is doing well after a cold and wet spring. I was telling Isabelle that it is already time to harvest our first set of beets, the peas need to be pulled and the plants given to the goats, and the bolting spinach and swiss chard fed to the turkeys.

The flowers are delighting in our weather and everything is nearly in full bloom, including the daisies. I try to truly enjoy this window of time, for it will pass quickly and too soon things will begin to bolt and grow tired and brown.

Our back porch has been revitalized now that the hot tub is no longer taking up a large portion of it. Believe it or not, I've actually sat in those chairs a few times already :-)

Our turkeys were attacked recently by a dog or coyote which jumped the fence and took two -- leaving only their entrails as evidence :-( The remaining five have been moved to a safer, albeit hotter and less attractive, pen.

The "big" garden is slow growing and daily filled with a new set of hundreds of weeds .... grrrrr. I've had more weeds this year than ever and am usually at a maintenance phase by now, so it has been a bit frustrating. We've only had about 2 weeks of summer weather though so hopefully with the heat, the plants will take off and overtake those pesky weeds!

It is truly a sight to see pansies still blooming in July here -- a testament to our mild weather! They are beautiful though!!

Porches are a blessing from above! Isabelle and I enjoy eating our breakfasts here during the mild summer mornings we have to ourselves.

I love red geraniums! They breath happiness ....

The perineal garden is thriving with the daisies and cat mint in bloom and the hollyhocks and cone flower soon to follow. We trimmed our lilacs fairly severely last fall which equated to no blooms this year. Josiah's allergies thanked us :-)
